Our New Wall at CrossFit Cambridge!

Alright so I said I'd be doing some sprucing up at the gym and this is one of the projects I will be working on. It will be our CrossFit Cambridge Leaderboard. The top 3 men and women for all bench mark workouts will have their name posted on the wall if they so choose.  These top posted times/weights will all be on the honour system. If you feel you have legitimately accomplished a top 3 spot then let me know and your name will rightfully be posted.

Only workouts that are done as prescribed will be posted however. This means proper weights/rep scheme/range of motion. Range of motion for this board will be the following: anything overhead must be fully locked out and able to see some of the ear, all pull ups are chin over bar and down to a full extension at the bottom, all squats/thrusters are below parallel, and so on and so forth. Typical CrossFit standards will be in place.

CrossFit is often called "the sport of fitness" and I agree with this. You can compete with everyone around you, with people on the main site, and eventually with people at the CrossFit Games.

HOWEVER ... you can and will always be competing with yourself and you may choose to never take it to the next level. This needs to be understood for everyone. We are all at the gym to improve our health and fitness. Some of us don't want to compete with others, some just want to see what we are capable of. This is absolutely 100% ok. But again, some of us are there to compete, which is also fine, but we need to be respectful of those who don't want to compete.

With this new leaderboard going up on the wall there is bound to be some comparison between people. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as it may motivate you to work harder to gain a spot on the board. I can guarantee you if you only compete with yourself and compete with yourself every single workout, you WILL have a spot on the leaderboard.

I want everyone to read this opening statement of a journal article from CrossFit.

Our gym will follow the same policy, no assholes. If anyone ever feels threatened, defeated, abused, or put down from another individual, that individual will be asked to leave and never come back. Our gym will only live on positivity, any negativity will not be accepted.

I'm looking forward to the leaderboard as I know it will give some people an extra push. I know that everyone will be positive towards their fellow CrossFitters. I am not worried at all. I just wanted to give everyone a reminder though that positive reinforcement is the only way to go at CrossFit Cambridge.

Great piece Chad-that is the best thing about OUR gym-we are all here to support and push each other and ourselves, but to respect each other too. And that is what i have always found. Thanks for always reminding us of this. And we have built a great culture of support here -everyone has followed these priniciples even without ever having it in writing-that speaks of itself--and you our Coach!
